Drawing - On Exhibit at River Studio
Grace OliverI am so excited to share a little bit about the first exhibit I've overseen at River Studio! Local artist/curator/collector, Rodney Harder, has generously lent some incredible pieces in his collection to us, and they are on display in our studio space through February!
DRAWING
Curated by Rodney Harder
A native of California, Rodney moved to Santa Cruz a few years ago from New York City where for 35 years he taught art and painted. While there, he purchased, traded and found a diverse collection of art from which this show is based on.
In this selection of drawings, he hopes to in part challenge how and what we consider drawing to be, both past and present. Making marks with a tool; creating illusions, presenting personal thoughts, visions and ideas, creating wonder, and hopefully leading the viewer to see something new. The works selected come from a range of artists, ‘Outsider’ ( Self Taught, Visionaries, Art Brut, Neurodiverse) and those engaged in a more historical awareness of western art ideas in their art practice.
“The terms Outsider and Insider have recently challenged what the art world has long perpetuated as a division of the serious and the less serious. It challenges how we see and think about drawing.”
Using a variety of venues like this working studio, Rodney enjoys the process of putting these 8’ by 8’ exhibitions together. “I enjoy working collaboratively and ‘sharing my aesthetic’ with the public.”
