Project Mink

Project Mink

Hello friends and family,

I am writing you today to ask for help. Mink was in an unfortunate situation with two dogs and sustained severe injuries. (TW) He had multiple rib fractures, a perforated lung, and a fractured femur.

I am relieved to say that he was able to make it through the initial trauma thanks to the efforts of the folks at the Pacific and Santa Cruz Veterinary Specialists. Multiple days of ICU care has cost us $6,000.

The next step for Mink is surgery on his leg for the fractured femur. Initially we thought amputation may be the only option, but there is a good chance that surgically placing a plate and pin may fully restore function to his leg without the need for future procedures. The cost of the surgery is $8,000, whereas amputation is $6,000.

The folks at Birch Bark Foundation are able to cover 75% of his procedure.

I am seeking aid to cover the remaining $2,000 and any follow up visits. If you are able to buy art or donate at the link in my bio, this will greatly help Mink get the help he needs!

Any additional funds raised will be donated to the Birch Bark Foundation for all their help.

About Mink

Mink sleeping on the job, at Santa Cruz Art League

Mink, at 15 weeks old has stolen the hearts of many folks in our community. You can find him asleep on my lap as I work at my desk, or in the potted plants outside River Studio. While he'll dodge any attempt to pet him on the head, Mink is enthusiastic to show affection by giving you a little lick on your hand. He is especially fond of the kids who come to play with him. I've seen him sneak out of my office to visit the West Preforming Arts students during their lunches, and coax them into throwing toys for him.

I met Mink in May this year, in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Soquel. He waited in the landscaping of the parking lot for me to come closer before loudly demanding that I come to his aid. Mink has not left my side since.

Given that Mink was 5 weeks old, I couldn't leave him at home alone. He makes the commute with me to the Santa Cruz Art League where he has been appointed the Guest Service Associate. When he's not asleep on my lap, he likes to hang out on the barn door and meet visitors.

Mink has also become the youngest member of River Studio. He will come with me every Saturday to make new friends while I work on my paintings. Mink has friends of all ages stopping by to tease him with a ribbon or give him a treat.
